There are 4 cities in Malawi. Cities are the biggest urban centres within the local government system in Malawi. City councils facilitate (on delegated authority from central government) the provision of local services and development of urban areas in Malawi. These are:

4. Zomba City Council

There are two Municipal councils in Malawi. Municipal Councils are fast growing urban areas in the Malawi local government system. They also facilitate (on delegated authority from central government) the provision of local services and development within their areas of jurisdiction. These are:

There is one Town council in Malawi. In the set-up of the Local Government system, town councils are for the development of small urban areas.
